So after months and months of setbacks, we've finally begun tracking our new LP. The record is going to be titled "Horizoner" and will have 9 tracks. We're recording this one ourselves, much like "EP," but we've got a new studio for this record. The better portion of the last year has been spent building the studio, getting "new' recording equipment, fixing that equipment, fixing it again, fixing it some more... you get the picture.
Actual tracking started in late September and has been progressing smoothly over the weekends we've been able to work on it. Drums, bass, and guitar have all taken roughly 2 days each to get on tape. The songs on this record, for the most part, have all been finished for well over 6 months, with a few songs dating back to while we were recording "EP" over a year ago. Hopefully now that we have the studio up and running, we can finally get current with recordings/releases and not constantly be sitting on another records worth of songs. The sequence of the record has been set for a few months now, so we've been able to record the songs in the order they will appear on the LP. The only hiccup we've run into was with a tape speed fluxuation on the last song. This happened sometime during the drum takes, but didn't become obvious to us until we started laying guitars over it. We came back in the following weekend and we able to get drums and bass re-recorded, finish the first guitar tracks as well as do all the second guitar parts.
Overall, the record is sounding a lot darker than we had imagined it would, but we couldn't be happier with the place we're at right now. Vocals are up tomorrow, so we'll have more to post soon. We've been filming bits of the process, which will eventually be cut into a singular piece which will be posted here, but in the meantime, there are some photos below, and the video above is of Alex recording the song "Morning Burial." Hope you like drums... we sure do.
